Wonjo Eonyang Bulgogi
원조언양불고기 A Korean-beef charcoal bulgogi house in the blue building at the mouth of Gwangalli's bulgogi alley in Busan, where the thin garlic-dressed beef is wrapped in free white kimchi and the kimchi stew finishes on the leftover coals.
Data as of · Published ·
Wonjo Eonyang Bulgogi is a Korean-beef charcoal house in a blue-painted building at the mouth of the 'bulgogi alley' just behind Gwangalli beach in Busan. The style is Eonyang's: thin-cut beef lightly dressed with garlic and soy, laid straight on a charcoal grate. The list is short — bulgogi, sirloin, fresh ribs, a few premium cuts, and a stew to finish. The local ritual is to wrap the meat in the free white kimchi, and when the meat is gone the kimchi stew goes onto the leftover charcoal to reduce while you eat it. It is about ten minutes' walk from Geumnyeonsan station on line 2, with its own car park opposite and an attendant who parks for you. But the business at this address was newly licensed in August 2025, and the previous owners split into two other shops at the same time — set out separately below. The posts we read run from December 2024 to September 2026.

What sets it apart
- Who does the grilling has changed. In the three posts up to April 2025 the customers cooked: one is simply told that three portions are hers to grill; another takes turns with friends. A December 2025 writer was still doing it herself, and complains that at this price per portion she would expect staff to take over. In all four posts from February 2026 onward the staff cook — one is told to just sit and wait, another watches an older waitress grill everything and lay it on the lettuce for her, a third is grateful for the flame being watched and the grate changed on time. One was told to turn it once, when it browns; another that overcooking makes it tough. The grate itself changes with the order: a special finely perforated one for the bulgogi, a different one again for the sirloin, and for the stew they take the grate out and set the pot on the coals — four posts describe that.
- Nine writers call it expensive and not one calls it cheap. One can only come when her parents-in-law are paying; another budgets ₩150,000 for two people with four portions and rice; a third breaks the word 'expensive' across three beats and adds that the portions are small; a fourth says it is too dear to come often and worth it once in a while. Yet eight of those nine either mean to return or are already regulars — seven say they have come back, four of them since primary school, since childhood, since their mother was in her twenties, or every year for more than a decade with the in-laws. Several track the climb: the price goes up every visit; it used to be ₩25,000 for 150g; thirty years ago a portion was ₩8,000, so it has quadrupled or more. Knowing the bill in advance is the single most useful preparation for this place.

An attendant parks the car for you. The shop has its own lot on the corner opposite; four posts call it valet, and two describe a man who simply takes the car. Four say that for the Gwangalli seafront, parking here is barely a worry. One post says the opposite — an April 2025 information line reads 'no parking', though nothing in that post's body concerns parking and another post from the same month notes a lot in the lane behind. Whether it is free, and how many cars fit, no writer records.

Getting there

Getting inside
| Second floor | 2 of 18 posts |
|---|
How many floors there are is unclear. The licence records only the floor area, 19.85 pyeong, with no storey. One writer (December 2024) thinks there is a ground and a first floor and says she is always seated downstairs; another (December 2025) was taken upstairs and says the whole building is the restaurant. Two describe the ground floor itself as two rooms — the one you walk into, and a larger one round to the right — and a third mentions another section again. Nobody records what the stairs are like, or whether there is a lift. Which floor you get appears to be whatever you are shown to.
Nobody wrote about getting in with a wheelchair or a pram. The words for wheelchair, pram, ramp, step, threshold and step-free access appear nowhere in the nineteen visited posts — checked by machine and then by eye. All we know is that the building seats people across more than one level (one writer was taken upstairs), and that one post recalls a heated-floor room here thirty years ago. Whether there is a lip at the door, what the route from the car park is like, whether any floor seating remains — no one recorded it. This is not a no; it is a blank.
Not one post mentions the toilet. The word does not appear in any of the nineteen visited posts. Inside or outside, separate for men and women, on which floor of a building that has more than one — we know none of it. That holds even though eight writers came as families and three brought children. There is no mention of a baby-change table either.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 21 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- The business at this address was newly licensed in August 2025, and two similarly named shops appeared at the same moment. Busan's new-registration list for 30 August 2025 carries, side by side, 'Wonjo Eonyang Bulgogi, Gwangan-dong 204-8, 19.85 pyeong' and 'Eonyang Bulgogi, Millak-dong 110-34, second floor of the Howon building, 59.41 pyeong'. A blogger who has eaten in this alley for years writes that Wonjo Eonyang Bulgogi was taken over by Jinmi, which reworked the rib section, while the previous owners moved to the Suvyeon Park side; their daughter and niece opened a third shop, 'Gwangalli Eonyang Bulgogi Wonjojip', in Namcheon-dong. Three things changed at that line. The telephone number went from 051-752-3762 (posts of December 2024 and April 2025) to 051-756-1710 (posts from November 2025 on) — and the older number now reaches the Millak-dong shop. Opening moved an hour earlier, from eleven to ten. And the weekly Monday closing became year-round opening. Marinated ribs, fresh ribs and the premium cuts appear only in posts from November 2025 onward. So a number copied from an older review will ring a different restaurant.
- Seven shops in this alley share the name. Counting only those named in the posts we read: this one, the Millak-dong shop by the waterside park, the Namcheon-dong 'original house', Busanjip Bonga, Gwangalli Eonyang Bulgogi Busanjip, Jinmi and Bakgane. Several advertise themselves as the original, and one writer simply notes that they all do. The one in the Michelin guide is Busanjip, at Namcheonbada-ro 32 — not this one; a post that confused the two is among those we struck from the denominator. Three things identify this shop: the blue-painted building, Gwangnam-ro 84beon-gil 16 (Gwangan-dong 204-8), and the number 051-756-1710. Two writers say a taxi driver talked them out of their original destination and into this one.
- Almost nothing here tells you how to arrive without a car. Four of nineteen posts mention a station, and in two of them the figure — 456m from exit 1 at Geumnyeonsan on line 2 — is Naver's, so we did not count it. One writer estimated the walk herself (about ten minutes from the subway), and exactly one names a bus: the 42, alighting at Gwangil Mansion, two hundred metres away. One post is titled as if the shop were by Namcheon station, but that post is a scrape of the listing and is out of the denominator. Several writers walk over from the beach, but only one describes the walk from a station. Three came by taxi.
- Nobody reports having queued. Four say they did not wait, and all four had dodged the hour — one arrived at opening, one early on a weekday evening, one a little before the rush and watched a queue form behind her, and one found a full room at Saturday lunch without an actual line. Another says outright that she went outside mealtimes to avoid a wait, and four describe the place as full. So how long you wait if you simply turn up at a busy hour is something we do not know. One writer suggests before six or after eight at weekends — but she had not queued either. One booked ahead; the shop's own post says you can reserve by phone, through Naver or by Instagram message, and even request a particular table.
- Not one of the nineteen visited posts declares sponsorship. Five say they paid their own way and one was treated by her parents-in-law; the remaining thirteen say nothing. Nor is there a cluster: the nineteen spread evenly across twenty-two months, and only one writer appears twice (April and May 2026). One of the eight posts we struck out did declare sponsorship — and it was about the Namcheon-dong shop. Two machine-written listicles attached other shops' details to this address, one of them inventing a telephone number and a price outright. So with this alley, the first thing to check in anything you find by search is which shop it is actually about.
