Maenggu Pocha

맹구포차 Maenggu is the slow, runny-nosed friend of Jjanggu in the cartoon Crayon Shin-chan, and pocha is short for pojangmacha, a Korean tent bar — the room is full of Jjanggu and Maenggu figures.

Compiled from 26 blog posts read in fullSources →

Maenggu Pocha's Gwangan branch is an indoor tent-bar one block back from Gwangalli Beach, on a lane off Namcheonbada-ro 33beon-gil. People come for seafood with soju: the raw-fish set (45,000 won), raw shrimp (38,000 won, plus 5,000 won to fry the heads) and butter-grilled blue crab (26,500 won), with soju at 5,500 won served in a basin of ice. The walls are covered in Crayon Shin-chan figures, a guest graffiti board and old posters, and each table gets a coin to trade for retro sweets at the counter. We read 30 posts from April 2025 to October 2026, set aside 4 about other places, and counted 26 — all of them actual visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect to wait. Seven of 26 posts described a queue: nine groups ahead on a holiday evening, number eight on CatchTable and about an hour, a wait even at midnight on a Monday, and a full house plus a line at 7pm on a Tuesday. Three posts found people already lined up when they arrived at the 6pm opening. One post that came at 10pm walked straight in.
  2. Four posts booked ahead. One reserved the opening slot on Naver the day before and was seated first, ahead of the opening queue. Several posts said same-day waits are taken remotely through CatchTable.
  3. One post said tables are limited to two and a half hours when people are waiting, and that they had to leave.
  4. Free nibbles arrive when you sit down: 17 posts mentioned them, most often sugared hardtack, pickled radish and sweet black beans. One post got a hardtack refill.
8 more
  1. Instead of water, 11 posts got tea in an old Del Monte juice bottle — usually barley tea, hovenia tea in one.
  2. Ordering is on a tablet or kiosk at the table, as nine posts noted; left idle, it shows how the coin game works.
  3. Ten posts mentioned the TV — a big screen showing Lotte Giants games on some nights and 1990s–2000s music videos on others.
  4. Five posts mentioned the old arcade cabinet (Tekken) by the door; one played a round with coins from the counter while waiting.
  5. Eight posts called it good value; one found it expensive, singling out soju at 5,500 won.
  6. Twelve posts found portions generous; one did not — three people sharing the 35,000-won braised rib set.
  7. Five posts said the fish and shrimp had no off smell; one found an off smell in the white kimchi served alongside.
  8. Five posts walked from Geumnyeonsan Station on Line 2, putting it at about 8 to 10 minutes from Exit 1.

The most ordered dish is soju (소주) — 17 of 26 posts.

Parking

Posts saying you cannot1 of 26 posts

That there is no parking of its own comes mostly from copied listings; one post drove and parked at the nearby public lot.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

Step-free access1 of 26 posts
Toilet inside2 of 26 posts

No one described the floor from experience; the 'ground floor' in the address is copied, and while posts say the front opens wide, no one said whether there are steps.

No post mentioned a threshold or wheelchair access. One post wheeled a dog in a stroller inside — which tells us little about steps; it is not that there are none, just that no one said.

Two posts said the toilet is inside, at the back. No one reported from experience whether it is split by gender; one copied listing says it is shared. One post pointed to a large public toilet in front of the shop if the line is long.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Opening hours appear in 24 posts; 23 give 6pm–4am with last orders at 3am and one says it opens at 4pm. Most are copied, but posts that walked in at midnight and 1am or stayed until 3am fit. Only two posts mention days off, both saying it is open every day.
  • Twelve posts list the phone as 0507-1339-0778 and two as 051-923-0778. Bookings are taken through Naver and CatchTable.
  • A few prices disagree. Most posts give raw shrimp at 38,000 won plus 5,000 for the heads, but one says 43,000 for the shrimp. The seafood platter was 35,000 won in May 2026 and the seafood set 38,000 in October — we could not tell whether that is a price rise or a different dish.
  • Three of 26 posts disclosed sponsorship and two said they paid themselves. Many share the same keyword-style title, and two repeat the owner's own blurb word for word. Posts describe the coin rules differently — one at the door, one per dish or per drink order, with extra coins won from staff at rock-paper-scissors.
