Happy Melt

해피멜트 Haepimelteu American diner a block back from Gwangalli beach: griddled rye sandwiches and plates, one cook at the griddle

Data as of · Published ·

Happy Melt is an American diner in the lanes two or three blocks back from Gwangalli beach, up towards exit 1 at Geumnyeonsan. It opened in 2025 and one person cooks on the griddle and serves. Three writers walked past it first — the sign carries no Korean name, so the orange wall and the Coca-Cola board are what you look for. The food is griddled rye sandwiches (patty melt, roast beef, reuben, pulled pork) at ₩11,000–13,000 and plates (roast beef steak, taco rice, taco nachos) at ₩12,000–16,000. You order and pay at a kiosk by the door. Eleven to nine every day, last orders at eight, closed the second Wednesday of the month. We read 29 posts, from September 2025 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. The kitchen is open, and there are stools at it. Fourteen writers mention it; several sat and watched the patty go on the griddle. Eight judged the hygiene from that seat — one had stopped going to a burger place after seeing the grease on its grill, and says this one is genuinely clean. The smell of cooking meat carries through the room, two note; one adds that an air purifier cleared the smoke quickly.
  2. Three writers came alone; fourteen say it is a good place to eat alone. Those are different things — most of the fourteen came in pairs and were judging. Of the three who did come alone, one says she relaxed the moment the owner smiled and asked whether it was just her; another was midway through a solo trip. Two writers noticed other people eating alone at the next table.
  3. There are almost no vegetables in the sandwiches; a dish of vinegar pickle comes instead. Sixteen writers mention it and twelve of them say it is what cuts the richness — the single most-written detail about this place. They do not agree on what it is: thirteen say onion and chilli, three say spring onion. One writer who never eats pickles ate this; another found it too sharp alone and right once piled on the sandwich. If you want more greens there is a caesar salad at ₩10,000, or ₩5,000 added to a sandwich brings a small one with a drink.
  4. You order and pay at a kiosk by the door before you sit — thirteen posts say so. Four liked choosing from photographs; one says it suits people who would rather not talk to anyone. The menu is also chalked up large on the wall. One writer found it disorienting that everything is written in English. One paid by phone wallet, one with the local Busan currency card.
  5. Write a receipt review and you get buffalo wings. Five writers did, in posts running from September 2025 to August 2026. Only two paid for them — five of the seven who ate wings paid nothing. The portions differ too: an ordered plate was seven pieces, a free one four. One more writer notes a drink coupon for following the shop's Naver page.

Parking

2 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park2 of 29 posts

The posts contradict each other on parking. Nine say there is none — but all nine of those lines sit in a block copied from the shop's Naver listing, and none of those writers arrived by car. Two who did say otherwise: one parked in the single space right outside at noon and called it luck, the other says that space made the visit easy. It reads as one spot, first come — but we could not confirm it. Six writers send you to the public car park by the beach; one gives its rate as ₩300 per ten minutes from October to May and ₩500 from June to September. One arrived by scooter.

Getting there

Getting inside

Toilet inside5 of 29 posts
Separate restroomsyes 0 · no 2 (of 29 posts read)

It is a ground-floor unit — the address reads "1F, unit 102", and twenty-three posts copy it. Not one of the 29 mentions a stair or a lift. Several read as though the writer opened the door straight off the lane, but nobody says whether the threshold is flat or stepped. That it is not upstairs is all we can confirm.

Nobody writes about getting in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Across all 29 posts there is no mention of a ramp, a threshold, a step or a doorway width. Several writers copied the shop's facility list from Naver, and it does not cover it either. We do not know the door, the entrance step, or the room between tables — only that it is a small place of about fourteen seats, and four writers call it snug rather than roomy. That is silence, not a no.

The toilet is inside — five writers saw it for themselves. Two place it by the full-length mirror next to the drinks fridge; one had assumed she would have to go outside and was relieved. The same writer calls it roomy and well finished, so it is not a cupboard. The other twenty-four say nothing about it at all.

There is one toilet, not two. Two writers say so — one flatly notes it is shared, the other calls it a clean shared toilet inside the shop. The other twenty-seven say nothing either way. The two agree, but they are only two.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • You walk from exit 1 at Geumnyeonsan station — but the posts put it at four, five, eight and ten minutes. Seven writers describe the walk themselves; the rest copied a line. Two give the bus: three to five minutes from the Gwangan-dong community centre stop. The beach is a block or two away, and six writers walked straight down to it afterwards. Nobody writes about whether either approach involves a slope or steps.
  • Not one writer queued. Two say they walked straight in — one found no wait at all, another arrived at an odd hour and had the room nearly to herself. The other twenty-seven simply do not mention it. That is not the same as no queue ever: with about fourteen seats and one person cooking, the sponsored post notes that a rush means a wait, and one writer deliberately went at four or five on a weekday to avoid people. Seven say the food itself came in about ten minutes. A "twenty-two groups waiting" in one post is another restaurant the writer gave up on, not this one, so we left it out.
  • One of the 29 declares a sponsorship (a September 2025 post states it outright). Five volunteer that they paid their own way; twenty-three say nothing. On top of that, five received free wings for writing a receipt review, so those posts each contain a dish nobody paid for. Two posts carry the same fourteen hashtags in the same order, but their bodies differ and both record what was eaten and what it cost, so we kept them. One post quotes somebody else's sponsored Instagram entry in full; that is not its own writer's sponsorship, so we left it unmarked — but we dropped the ₩13,000 patty melt price it quotes, since the other eight posts all say ₩11,000.
  • Two things got cheaper. The roast beef sandwich is ₩14,000 in two September 2025 posts and ₩13,000 in six posts from December 2025 on; the reuben moved the same way. The patty melt (₩11,000), the steak (₩16,000) and the taco dishes (₩12,000) did not move across the year. The latest price we have is from September 2026, so today's is unknown to us. One price is not on the published menu at all: ₩5,000 added to a sandwich brings a small caesar salad and a soft drink, which one writer flags precisely because Naver does not list it.
