Soup and riceKorean

1953 Hyeongje Dwaeji Gukbap

1953형제돼지국밥 Hyeongje means brothers: two brothers opened it on their grandmother's clear-broth recipe, and 1953 is the year she started selling gukbap from a cart in Busan.

A pork-and-rice soup house down an alley near Kyungsung-Pukyong University station in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan. Both the clear and the milky soups cost 10,000 won, and each bowl comes with rice cooked in its own small pot, which several writers finished off as scorched-rice nurungji. We read 12 posts from May to October 2026; five describe an actual visit. The rest are lists from the city's 2026 pork-soup awards or rewrites of the Naver listing, and one was about a different restaurant.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. You order from your seat. Four of the five visits ordered on a tablet or kiosk at the table; one noted that ordering and paying both happen without leaving your seat.
  2. Side dishes and rice are self-serve. Two visits used the self-serve corner themselves, and one listed what was on it: macaroni salad, braised fish cake, radish kimchi, seasoned chives and more. A sign promising more rice and soup any time is the house's own claim, so we did not count it.
  3. Three visits said there was no porky smell. One checked the house's claim and agreed; another was surprised that even the rich milky broth had none.
  4. Three visits called it clean. One family could see into the open kitchen and felt at ease feeding their children there; another noted the floor was not sticky.

These are raw counts, not percentages. Someone who did not mention something is not someone who disagreed.

The most ordered dish is malgeun dwaeji gukbap (맑은돼지국밥) — 5 of 5 posts.

The prices here are what bloggers wrote down in their posts, and they may have changed since. Check Naver Place for the current menu and prices. This list is not a menu board — it counts what bloggers actually ordered and ate. Check on Naver Place

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 5 posts

Plan on no parking of its own. One family parked at a paid lot across the street (1,500 won per 30 minutes) and another driver used a private lot nearby. Other posts point to the Pyeonghwa lot or the Pukyong University car park.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 5 posts read)

We do not know which floor it is on. One post says it is a converted house down an alley, but nobody said whether it is at street level or up stairs.

Nobody wrote about a step at the entrance or wheelchair and stroller access, including the two posts by families with children.

Only one visit mentioned the toilet: it is outside the dining room, hot in summer and cold in winter. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in copied listing text.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 11 posts we gathered, 6 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-222 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opinions split on size, one to one: one visit found it open and roomy with about 12 tables, another said it is not a large place.
  • No visit described arriving by subway. Several posts say it is a 3 to 5 minute walk from exit 1 of Kyungsung-Pukyong University station, but the two visitors who said how they came drove.
  • No one wrote that they waited. One family arrived early on a weekend morning and walked straight in; another avoided mealtimes and found no line. What lunchtime is like we only know from hearsay.
  • Two visits were with family including children and one with a spouse. No visit was by friends together or by someone eating alone.
  • Opening hours: all five visits gave 8:00 to 21:30; two give last orders at 20:40 and two say it closes only on the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays. Two of these come from copied info blocks, so check before going.
  • Prices match between the May and October 2026 posts: 10,000 won for the clear or milky soup, 11,000 for the spicy one, 12,000 for mala. One July post put the clear soup at around 9,000. A meal is a bowl plus its pot of rice, around 10,000 won.
  • The clear soup has changed. One writer remembered udon in the bowl four years ago; by April 2026 it came without noodles and with a separate pot of rice. Udon now goes in the spicy soup, and one family added it to the clear soup as an extra.
  • Four posts give the phone number 051-625-1014. Booking through Naver appears only in copied info blocks; no visitor wrote that they booked.
