Gangnamgyoja, Ttukseom-yeok-jeom

강남교자 뚝섬역점 “Gangnam gyoja” — gyoja are the steamed pork dumplings the chain is built on, and Gangnam is where its first shop opened, in southern Seoul, not this neighbourhood. Ttukseom Station branch.

Updated · Published

Gangnam Gyoja Ttukseom is a kalguksu house — hand-cut wheat noodles in broth — on the ground floor of the Seoul Forest A Tower, right by exit 5 and 6 of Ttukseom station on line 2. The name points at Gangnam, where the first branch opened; this is one shop in that chain, and it feeds the offices of Seongsu and Seoul Forest at lunchtime. Noodles and steamed pork dumplings are the heart of it, but the menu also runs to ox-bone soup, spicy chicken soup, boiled pork and rice-cake soup, with three cold or restorative dishes added for the summer. One dish is a thousand won cheaper on its own day of the week, and the room that fills at noon empties by one. The posts we read span November 2022 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. One dish is a thousand won cheaper on its own day. Twelve posts mention the arrangement, and the three that list it in full — from November 2025, March 2026 and September 2026 — agree: chicken soup on Monday, spicy noodles Tuesday, ox-bone soup Wednesday, spicy sujebi Thursday, rice-cake soup Friday. In practice the day decides the order; three writers turned up on a Friday for the rice-cake soup. One writer's favourite falls on a Monday she could not make, so she paid full price and said so. The prices have climbed since 2022 all the same — the discount price then was ₩8,000, and in 2026 it is ₩9,000.
  2. It is two different restaurants depending on the hour. Thirteen posts describe the lunch rush — every table taken by noon, office workers queueing to cure last night's drinking, the room filling hard between twelve and half past. But a full room is not the same as a queue. Three writers say they actually waited; nine say they did not — and the ones who did not all name the same sort of time: quarter past eleven, half eleven, after half twelve, the evening, a public holiday. Three put it down to how fast the tables turn. Only one writer puts a number on the queue at all, and it is three parties. This reads less like a place you queue for than a place to avoid at half past twelve.
  3. The kimchi comes in a pot on the table and you help yourself. Seven posts describe it, and one is openly relieved not to have to flag anyone down for a refill. It is also the single most discussed thing here — twenty-four of the twenty-eight posts mention it. This is geotjeori, made fresh rather than aged, and loaded with raw garlic; take a little first if chilli is not your habit. One man sweated so hard over it he briefly wondered about his health, and another rinses it in water before eating. Often it is the only side dish, though nine posts also got a sweet-pickled radish salad.
  4. It is a big room. Twelve posts say so, and one from 2022 counts about twenty tables. Two describe a partition running down the middle, four note the split between tables for two and tables for four, and three mention seats set aside for people eating alone — one writer is struck by how firmly the staff separate and steer the two kinds of customer. One found a long banquette good for a gathering; four say a group would fit. Ten posts discuss eating alone here, and three of those writers did.
  5. Ten posts say it is close to the station and they cannot agree which exit. Eleven name an exit: four say exit 5, five say exit 6, and two hedge and give both. The distance comes out as 38 metres, 143 metres, two minutes, three minutes and five minutes. Take it to mean a few minutes from either exit — one writer found it immediately on leaving exit 6, another says it is the ground floor of the building directly in front of exit 5. One adds a useful aside: there is not much else to eat around exit 6, which is how she ended up here.
  6. Nobody calls it expensive. The three posts that discuss price all go the other way — cheap enough to suit an office lunch budget, reasonable for what food costs now, good value for the size of the bowl. But it has gone up steadily. The kalguksu is ₩9,000 in a November 2023 post and ₩10,000 in the 2026 ones; the large pork platter has gone from ₩39,000 to ₩42,000, the couples' set from ₩23,000 to ₩25,000. A January 2024 post and a February 2024 post give the noodles as ₩10,000 and ₩9,000 respectively, and we could not work out which was right. As it stands, expect ₩10,000 for a bowl of noodles and ₩11,000–12,000 for the soups and the pork.
  7. There are signed celebrity boards up near the till. Four writers noticed them; two name names — the actors Oh Man-seok and Kam Woo-sung, and the singer Kangta. One puts it down to SM Entertainment having offices nearby. Nobody counts how many there are.

Getting inside

Second flooryes 0 · no 2
Toilet insideyes 0 · no 2

We do not know whether a wheelchair or a pushchair gets in. That it is on the ground floor is certain — twenty-five of the twenty-eight carry the address with the floor in it, and two of those say it in their own words rather than in a copied line. But nobody looked at the doorway: not one writer mentions a step, a threshold or what kind of door it is. The only line about wheelchairs at all says that being on the ground floor makes it easy for pushchairs and wheelchairs alike, and that writer was reasoning from the floor number rather than from anything she watched happen. The high chair in her photographs, on the other hand, she did see. Bear in mind too that the toilet is out in the building behind a keypad.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • There is no toilet in the restaurant. It is out in the Seoul Forest A Tower, and two writers went and reported back. One leaves directions: don't walk all the way down to the cafe end, turn in by the pharmacy — and the door has a keypad, so you need the code from the shop. She found it clean. Four other posts list separate men's and women's toilets, but all four are copying the shop's own listing, and one of them corrects herself a paragraph later to say the toilet is outside. Nobody says whether there is an accessible cubicle.
  • Not one post names a closing day. Fourteen give opening hours, in two camps: eight split the week — eleven to nine on weekdays, last orders half eight; eleven to half eight at weekends, last orders eight — while six simply write eleven to nine, some of them adding "daily". The six are not contradicting the eight; they are leaving the weekend out. The eight that do spell it out agree exactly, from a post in November 2023 to one in July 2026. If you are going at the weekend, plan on a half-eight close. Two posts say there is no afternoon break, and one of them only came in because every other kitchen nearby had shut for it. Two say the set menus start at three in the afternoon; one says the same of the alcohol. Nobody writes about booking a table, though one writer, copying the shop's price sheet, reproduces a line asking weekend customers to ring ahead.
  • No post declares a sponsorship. Four state that they paid their own way and twenty-four say nothing either way; nobody records being given anything. Twenty-eight posts are not twenty-eight people, though — one blogger wrote up the same rice-cake soup twice, in September and November 2025, which makes twenty-seven. He links to a third visit of his that we do not have. And two of the original thirty were set aside: a month-long diary that gives this place a single line, and a round-up of twenty lunch spots near the station that never says what was eaten.
  • Two regulars flatly contradict each other about the chain. This is a franchise with branches across the country, and three posts take it up. One, from September 2026, says the branches vary a great deal and that this one happens to be good. Another, from November 2025, says there is no difference between branches at all, which is why she drops into whichever is nearest. Both had eaten at several. We have no way to settle it. What we can say is that every price and every dish described here comes from posts about this branch — we used no review of any other. Eight writers record coming back to this one.
  • Only two writers discuss the service, and they describe opposite experiences. One was glad of the warning that the bibim noodles come strongly dressed, and of the offer to swap them. The other spent her meal being topped up: staff coming round again and again to refill the cutlery and napkins, rocking the table each time they opened the lid, and carrying off the mustard mid-bowl, so that she could not add it to her cold noodles later as she had planned. Her plea is simply to leave a table alone while people are eating. With two accounts we cannot say which is the house's normal.
  • The posts disagree about how much food you get. Three say plenty — no need for the large, full after finishing, a generously sized bowl. Against that, one writer finished still a little short and resolved to add noodles next time, and another suspects a grown man might want more. The rice is free and extra noodles are ₩2,000, so ask for rice first if you want padding — though one post warns that the rice does not always come by itself, and to mention it when you order.
  • How fast the food arrives is also disputed. Two writers were served almost at once, and one waited — none of the three says how long. Both of the quick ones note in the same breath that the room was quiet when they came.
